Agoro wings in for new campaign

20th October 2017

Newcastle Thunder have added further potency to their attack for 2018, as the club complete the signing of Mo Agoro from University of Gloucestershire All Golds.

A powerful winger with strength and pace in abundance, Agoro is a vastly experienced operator in Kingstone Press League 1, having made over 98 appearances with Oldham, Hunslet and the All Golds.

Staring out as a junior with Leeds Rhinos, Agoro started his professional career with the Roughyeds where two seasons of impressive performances earned him a move to Hunslet. He then made the switch to the All Golds in mid-2016, as he studied for a Masters degree in strength and conditioning at the university.

A player with an eye for the try line, scoring 55 tries over the course of the last five years with 20 of those coming in an impressive 2017 campaign with the All Golds.

Equally adept at backrow, it is in the forward where he has earned three international caps for Jamaica and has also gained international experience playing rugby sevens.

And after speaking to head coach Jason Payne, the explosive runner is targeting a strong pre-season and making an immediate impact for his new club.

Agoro said: “I’m really excited to be joining Thunder for next season, it’s a great club with a good support base around them.

“Speaking to Jason I can see what direction the club is taking in terms of their ambitions and it’s something I want to be part of.

“I’m looking to have a good pre-season so I can make an impact on the squad and reach the targets that the club are setting.”

Newcastle Thunder head coach Jason Payne said: “I’m delighted that Mo has decided to join us next season, he had a great season for Gloucester where he really showed his class.

“Mo is a natural try scorer and finisher but also very good defensively which is why I believe he will be a real fan’s favourite next year.

“He is a strong guy with plenty of pace which makes him a real dynamic player with a bright future in the game. I am excited to see what he can achieve alongside our young, talented backline.”
