The planning application, if successful, would increase the stadium capacity from 10,200 to 11,730 at the home of Aviva Premiership Rugby club Newcastle Falcons and rugby league club Newcastle Thunder.

It would significantly raise the number of covered seats and hospitality places, which have both sold out a number of times in recent seasons, as well as offering much-improved training facilities and infrastructure for the club's rugby department.

The North Stand, which is currently an uncovered terrace with no bars are toilets, would be transformed into a state-of-the-art facility featuring 1,530 covered seats, standing accommodation for supporters, new fitness and medical facilities, meeting rooms and hospitality space.

A new fanzone and service area would be created around the East Stand, with additional parking facilities.

Significantly, the plans also include the installation of an all-weather community pitch with floodlights and changing rooms which will will allow further usage by schools, clubs and community groups as well as college and university teams.

With crowds at Kingston Park Stadium having increased year on year over the past few seasons Newcastle Falcons have consistently run out of seats and hospitality places on match days.

This planning application would allow for demand to be catered for as well as enhancing the facilities for existing supporters, while the necessary upgrades to training pitches, fitness and medical facilities will enable the team to further enhance their on-field performance.
