Lewis Young’s impressive 2017 season is in line for national recognition this September, with the Thunder fullback shortlisted for the Kingstone Press League 1 Young Player of the Year award.

One of the prizes given out at the annual end of season gala dinner, which this year returns to the Manchester, Young’s nomination follows on from team-mate Vincent Rennie being up for the same gong in 2016.

Young’s form has been impressive throughout the year, with his thrilling runs from fullback and excellent supporting runs causing mayhem in opposition defences, including in yesterday’s 34 – 8 win over Keighley Cougars.

Making 21 appearances to date, in which he has scored 17 tries and earned seven man of the match nods, Young will follow in the footsteps of Matty Beharrell, who was named Young Player of the year in 2015 whilst a Thunderman, should he win the award.

The 2017 Kingstone Press Championship and League 1 Awards shortlists in full are as follows:

Championship Player of the Year: Chris Atkin (Hull Kingston Rovers), Mark Kheirallah (Toulouse Olympique XIII) and Shaun Lunt (Hull Kingston Rovers)

Championship Coach of the Year: Andrew Henderson (London Broncos), Richard Marshall (Halifax RLFC) and Tim Sheens (Hull Kingston Rovers)

Championship Young Player of the Year: Alex Walker (London Broncos), Brandon Moore (Halifax RLFC) and James Bentley (Bradford Bulls),

League 1 Player of the Year: Bob Beswick (Toronto Wolfpack), Craig Hall (Toronto Wolfpack) and Joe Bullock (Barrow Raiders)

League 1 Young Player of the Year: Ash Robson (York City Knights), Lewis Young (Newcastle Thunder) and Liam Harris (York City Knights)

The winners will be announced at the 2017 Kingstone Press Championship and League 1 annual dinner in Manchester on Monday September 18.
