1st September 2017

Newcastle Thunder fans will are in line to get a look into the club’s future on Sunday afternoon, with the potential first team debut of Adam Bielby against Keighley Cougars.

A member of the Under 19s Academy, Bielby has consistently impressed Thunder’s coaches and Academy staff and should he be named in the match day 17, will be the latest home grown player to pull on Thunder colours.

An explosive strike runner who is comfortable as both a centre of a second row, the 18-year-old from Bishop Auckland was a junior at Durham Demons and is about to start studying Physiotherapy at Northumbria University, having completed a Level 3 BTEC with the club’s further education provider Tyne Met College.

Speaking about the young prospect, academy coach Michael Heap is fulsome in his praise.

He said: “"It is a massive achievement for the club, the academy and everyone connected to it that we have an Academy player making the step up to first team.  To be doing so in a must win Super 8s game shows how much confidence and faith we have in our Academy.

“Every player within the academy has worked exceptionally hard this year to improve both as a team and individually. There are a number of young players in multiple positions who are really knocking on the door for an opportunity and Adam is certainly one of those.”
