Young players from across the Nort East are being offered the opportunity to increase their rugby league involvement this summer as Newcastle Thunder launch a new Under 16 Origin development programme.

An open Access development programme aiming at providing players with additional playing and training opportunities, the Origin development programme is open to all Year 10 and 11 players regardless of perceived ability, experience, community club or school.

The programme will create two groups of players, primarily on a geographic basis with North and South of Tyne, in order to create two competitive sides.

Kingston Park Stadium will play host to the training sessions for both groups, who will receive coaching from Newcastle Thunder Academy coaches as well as Strength and Conditioning from Newcastle Thunder Academy S&C staff.

Starting with a development day at the stadium this Saturday, players will be introduced to the North East Talent Pathway and undertake physical screening, before taking part in the first field session, with an array of skill games.

A total of nine training sessions will then take place over the course of May, June & July at Kingston Park on Tuesday evenings, with games on Saturday 24th June and Saturday 22nd July.

Training dates are:

May:      9 / 16 / 23

June:     6 / 13 / 20

July:       3 / 10 / 17

All session to run 18:30 – 20:30
