Newcastle Thunder have made three changes to the 19 man squad announced ahead of last weekend’s fixture against London Skolars, as they look to plot a route to the fifth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup at the expense of Dewsbury Rams.
Head coach Mick Mantelli has packed his selections for the squad from which he will select his final match day line up with experienced players as he looks to take Thunder past the fourth round of the competition for only the third time in their history.
The new faces added into the named squad include Jack Aldous, former Scotland international Lee Paterson and local prop Josh Stoker, with Matty Barron, Sam Luckley and Lewis Young the players to make way.
The two sides last met at the same stage of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup back in 2015, when Thunder matched a Rams side that was then flying high in the Kingstone Press championship, before eventually succumbing to a 10 point loss as Glenn Morrison’s side closed out the match in the final minutes.
With the potential of a plum draw of a Super League side in round five and the Rams currently searching for some form, Thunder’s players have all the incentive they need to extend their winning run to 15 games in all competitive fixtures.
