Benn Hardcastle admitted to feeling some pressure as he kicked the winning points against London Skolars, but maintains that the result gives an indication of where Thunder are as a team.
The half-back told Thunder TV that this year’s squad are a close knit group and it is a quality that not only allowed them to seize the victory on Sunday gone but will improve them as the season goes on.
Hardcastle said: “I was a little bit nervous, there was a lot of pressure I’d missed the ones before and they are always in the back of your mind, so I tried to block that out and get those two points.
“Dan Parker was behind me talking and I said if I am going to kick one, it had got to be this one. I hit it sweetly and as soon as I looked up I could see it was straight and going straight over.
“We had to really dig deep and grind out that win. That is the kind of team that we are this year, there is a lot of togetherness as a team and we are really close and as you could see at the end that meant a lot to the boys and that togetherness is going to bring us even closer this year.”
