Tommy Saxton bags two tries on York debut as Knights see off Newcastle Thunder

Tommy Saxton scored two tries on his debut as York City Knights returned to winning ways in Kingstone Press League 1 with a 36-4 victory over Newcastle Thunder in front of a crowd of 3,033 at Kingston Park.

The hosts, who brought the fixture forward in an attempt to attract Super League fans ahead of the Magic Weekend at St James' Park, were outplayed by a Knights side that had not won in two games.

York advanced into a 16-0 lead courtesy of scores from Jonny Presley, Josh Tonks and Brett Turner, before Tom Reudiger crossed for the Thunder on the stroke of half-time.

But winger Saxton, a loan signing from Halifax, then crossed twice during a second half which also saw Tyler Craig, who kicked four goals, and Ed Smith bag four-pointers to help boost York's confidence ahead of next weekend's iPro Sport Cup final against Keighley Cougars.
