Kingston Park Stadium played host to a high quality day of junior rugby on Saturday, when the home of Newcastle Thunder held the 2017 finals day for North East rugby league.

The day saw three games take place on the main pitch at the ground over the course of the day as matters were decided in the U12s cup final, and league finals for U14 and U16s age groups.

Cramlington Rockets and Whitely Bay Barbarians got the games underway at 11am with the U12s match, where the Rockets prevailed with a 24-12 win, before the first of the league finals went the way of Gateshead Storm as they beat Catterick Crusaders 24-16.

The day drew to a close with a high quality encounter between Cramlington and Wallsend, with both sides committing to serve up a pulsating game.

It was a close run thing, with the Rockets making sure of the win in only the last few minutes and providing plenty of entertainment for the close to 400 spectators who came down to the ground.
