Newcastle Thunder face Welsh opposition for the second time in a week on Sunday, as North Wales Crusaders travel to Kingston Park Stadium in the quarter finals of the 2017 League 1 Cup, KO 3pm.
Coached by former Thunder assistant Mike Grady, the Crusaders will be hoping to avenge their loss 31-26 loss in the Kingstone Press League 1 Shield last September and progress into the semi finals of a competition they won in 2015 in the competition’s inaugural year.
Thunder meanwhile, will be looking to make it thorough to the last four for the second time in three seasons and be just 80 minutes away from earning a trip to the Summer Bash in Blackpool.
The hosts booked their place in Sunday’s encounter thanks to a solid 10-34 win over Hunslet RLFC in round one, with a seven try showing at South Leeds Stadium while the Crusaders showed nerve and resolve in their first round match against York City Knights.
With nothing to separate the teams at the end of eighty minutes, Jack Hansen became the man of the moment with a golden point drop goal to push his side into the last eight.
