Newcastle Thunder’s Ali Blair is expecting a response from London Skolars when they arrive at Kingston Park Stadium on Sunday, for the first home game of the new Kingstone Press League 1 season.
The Skolars were on the wrong end of a 0-76 thumping at the hands of Toronto Wolfpack last weekend and Blair insists Thunder have to be wary of the literal wounded animal.
Speaking to Thunder TV he said: “They took a bit of a bruising at the weekend and they will definitely be smarting and wanting to come back with a bit of a bang up here and make a bit of a statement themselves.”
After enjoying a good run of results in recent seasons against the side from the capital, including a club record equalling 6-66 triumph in 2015, Blair believes that Thunder should take strength from their own start to the season and approach the fixture with confidence.
He added: “I think we have to be confident with the last couple of wins and going into this game thinking that we can win. It’s a game that we probably should win, but we can’t get over confident in ourselves. We have to just go out there, do our jobs and perform our roles well. “
