Paul Crook inspires Rochdale Hornets victory over Newcastle Thunder

The kicking of Paul Crook ensured Rochdale Hornets kept pressure on table-toppers Toulouse with 38-30 away win over Newcastle Thunder in the Kingstone Press League One.

Hornets outscored their hosts by seven tries to six through first-half scorers Toby King and Danny Yates with Crook, David Cookson, Warren Thompson scoring in the second half before Chris Riley and Dale Bloomfield's late scores brought victory for the visitors.

The hosts lead through Tom Reudiger's try, before braces from Peter Fox and Rhys Clarke and a Derrell Olpherts score proved just short. But it was Crook's five conversions out of seven that proved the difference as Thunder's Dan Parker could only convert two kicks from five attempts alongside Benn Hardcastle's sole kick costing Newcastle eight crucial points.
