Biography

Newcastle Thunder’s 2016 young player of the season will remain in the Thunder squad for 2017, with Lewis Young agreeing a new deal with the club.

Joining the club in April, after impressing the club’s coaches in training and his performances for Team Northumbria, Young’s performances across the season saw him become an invaluable asset to the club.

A former junior at Redhill ARLFC back in his home town of Castleford, Young honed his skills through Castleford Panthers and Featherstone Lions before moving to the North East to study at Northumbria University.

Forming a threatening half-back partnership with Benn Hardcastle, the 21 year old made 15 appearances for the club out of a possible 17, scoring five tries and earning man of the match nods in three of his matches.

Equally adept at fullback or in the halves, Young will be a valuable asset in Thunder’s quest for a top four finish in 2017 with the player himself anticipating an exciting year.
